Chacruna Community Forum Special Series: The Reciprocity Dialogues

Chacruna Community Forum Special Series: The Reciprocity Dialogues is a series of conversations between non-profit organizers, legal experts, Indigenous leaders, scholars, activists, researchers and advocates at various intersections with the psychedelic renaissance. The topics covered include decolonization, biocultural conservation, the protection of sacred plants and traditions, Indigenous allyship, transforming traditional business approaches and practices, and community empowerment. How can we define “reciprocity”? What are different organizations doing to try and promote reciprocity in psychedelics? How can we keep companies in the space accountable? How can we co-create research that is mindful and meaningful towards the needs of Indigenous peoples? How can we include ecological conservation and the agency of plants? What are the main treaties and legal standards that regulate Indigenous knowledge? What lessons can we learn from other industries (e.g., cannabis, tobacco, gambling) in terms of equity and inclusion? How can we center Indigenous voices in conversation around regulation of psychedelics and drug reform? Through these discussions, we will assess the ways in which colonial dynamics are reproduced and reinforced in psychedelic culture, and identify the obstacles and challenges to reciprocity and decoloniality. We hope you will join us in this pioneering and vibrating exploration of different strategies for working towards a process of reciprocity in the corporate, non-profit, therapeutic and ceremonial spheres.
