Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines is a registered California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (EIN 84-3076078). We are a community-oriented organization run by a small staff of experts and enthusiastic volunteers who work to bring education and cultural understanding about psychedelic plant medicines to a wider audience. We promote a bridge between the ceremonial use of sacred plants and psychedelic science and envisage a world where plant medicines and other psychedelics are preserved, protected, and valued as part of our cultural identity and integrated into our social, legal, and health care systems.
Help us to achieve our mission! From our beginnings in 2017, we have stood apart from other psychedelic education and advocacy organizations by pioneering initiatives that support and provide a platform for diverse voices, including women, queer people, people of color, Indigenous people, and the Global South. In efforts to address the lack of diverse representation in the expanding psychedelic landscape, we centered our mission around the empowerment of marginalized voices to foster cultural and political reflections on topics like race, gender, and sexuality in psychedelic science. We believe now more than ever, given the current social and political climate, our work is critical to the future of psychedelic healing for humanity.
Please become a member so that you are able to help Chacruna, yourself, and the world. Support of any amount helps this cause and allows us to provide psychedelic education to anyone who wants to access it.

Chacruna Institute’s Internship Program has created internship opportunities that provide students an engaging opportunity to work one on one with Chacruna staff members and have access to other experts who are part of Chacruna’s global network. Many students are looking for guidance on how to get involved in the psychedelic field and find the best, equitable, and fitting programs to fit their interests and focus of study. Given that Chacruna promotes cutting edge content, has a strong pool of experts, and works in collaboration with many leading organizations and experts in this field, Chacruna can provide many valuable resources for students, as well as answer any questions or concerns they may have, to ensure that they feel equipped to move forward in expanding their psychedelic toolbelt. While these internship positions are unpaid, Chacruna offers all interns opportunities to participate in events, courses, workshops, and other educational offerings that are part of the institution. Chacruna also offers other opportunities to participate in their partner’s programs if/when they are offered to Chacruna. At completion of the internship period, interns receive a certificate of completion from Chacruna, as well as the possibility for a letter of recommendation. Ultimately, this internship program serves as a way for students to have a head start in their psychedelic career paths through professional experience, mentorship opportunities, and personal growth.
Learn about our former interns experience
As a former Social Media and Content Production intern, I have nothing but positive words to reflect my time spent working with the Chacruna team. I had the opportunity to collaborate with some brilliant minds and was treated with the utmost respect and professionalism throughout my internship. The responsibilities I took on were both fulfilling and instrumental in helping me develop my technical skills. I was also able to expand my knowledge on the various topics that the Chacruna Institute focuses on. I highly recommend this internship to any student or professional looking to gain industry-relevant experience, enhance their skill set, and connect with a network of passionate individuals dedicated to impactful work.

Working as a Social Media and Content Production Intern with Chacruna Institute has been an incredibly enriching experience. I’ve had the opportunity to engage with the vibrant community surrounding plant medicines and contribute to meaningful conversations about cultural reciprocity and justice. This role has not only enhanced my skills in content creation and social media management but has also deepened my appreciation for the vital role of Indigenous knowledge in contemporary discussions. I’m grateful for the chance to be part of such an impactful organization!

As Chacruna’s Membership Support Intern, I was always offered support, respect, and excellent guidance that encouraged me to grow as a member of the team, as well as an individual. I was given the opportunity to integrate my ideas into the department, attend important meetings, register for classes and workshops, and meet with some of our incredible members to discuss and represent Chacruna’s mission. Additionally, as a student, the staff at Chacruna were very understanding of my time constraints and uplifted my personal/professional interests. My experience here has inspired me to continue volunteering even after the completion of my internship. I highly recommend enrolling, especially for students who are looking for comprehensive and community-oriented work that helps to uplift and preserve the original voices in this blooming field!
