Role: Volunteer Coordinator Intern
Location: Remote with opportunities for travel to conferences/events
Reports to:  Development and Operations Officer
Job Type: Unpaid Internship
Duration: Must commit to 6 months
Hours: 2 hrs per day (Mon-Fri, between 6am and 4pm PDT)
Contract Renewal: If onboarded for this internship position, there is possibility for contract renewal after the dates of the internship have ended

WHO WE ARE:

The Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization co-founded by Brazilian anthropologist Dr. Bia Labate and American psychologist Dr. Clancy Cavnar, based in Northern California and with strong ties to Brazil and Mexico. We promote reciprocity in the psychedelic community, and support the protection of sacred plants and cultural traditions. We advance psychedelic justice through curating critical conversations and uplifting the voices of women, queer people, Indigenous peoples, people of color, and the Global South in the field of psychedelic science.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are currently seeking a creative and motivated individual to join our team and support our Development and Operations Officer. The Development and Operations Officer is responsible for various tasks outside of monitoring our Patreon Membership program, including working in partnership with Chacruna’s Executive Director to accomplish the organization’s mission and vision through all operations and programs, scaling the growth of organization to achieve global reach and financial sustainability. As an intern, you would be responsible for tasks supporting coordination and communication with our vast network of volunteers from around the globe as determined by the Development and Operations Officer.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excitement for the mission, vision and values of the organization
  • General understanding of the contemporary psychedelic landscape
  • Relevant work experience is a plus
  • Excellent organizational and self-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple inboxes 
  • Strong planning and scheduling skills
  • Strong and consistent communication skills 
  • Knowledge of social media management tools such as Later, Canva, Slack, Excel, etc. 
  • Understanding of analytics tracking and reporting 
  • Positive attitude, attention to detail with good multitasking and organizational ability 
  • Ability to work an a dynamic and intense work environment 
  • Ability to manage groups of people in an in-person and virtual environment

DUTIES:

  • Support the Development and Operations Officer in management of volunteers needed for various events we host, such as our annual conference
  • Help recruit, manage, and organize both Chacruna and IRI volunteers
  • Create systems for easy recruitment, tracking, and coordination of Chacruna’s global volunteers
  • Help to create job descriptions for new and existing volunteer roles
  • Assist with managing relationships with other organizations, external partners, and the public
  • Help to coordinate volunteers for Chacruna’s annual conference and other in person events
  • Other special projects assigned by leadership team

EDUCATION/YEARS EXPERIENCE

Minimum:  

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred 3 years of demonstrated experience working in communications and project management roles on a cross-functional team.
  • Experience working in cause-related issue areas, nonprofit organizations and/or charitable causes, either on staff or in a volunteer role.

Expectations:

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled in school or participate in a similar educational program.
  • This internship is educational in nature and there is no guarantee or expectation that the internship will result in employment.
  • The education received by the Intern from the internship is for the express benefit of the Intern.
  • A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end given that all parameters are met.
