How can Psychedelics enhance movements for ecological, economic, racial, and social justice? What can the psychedelic community learn from resistance movements? Two life-long organizers and movement builders discuss the relationship between material social change, spiritual growth, and therapeutic use of sacred plants. In an age of climate change, political instability, exponential technological growth, economic and ecological collapse, Eroc and Joshua reflect on the role of plant medicines and healing for liberation in late-stage capitalism.
Ernesto “Eroc” Arroyo-Montano is a proud father of three wonderful children, an emcee, circle keeper, artist, community weaver, educator, curandero and aspiring elder. A queer Boricua raised in Boston, MA, and a founding member of the radical, award-winning Hip Hop group, Foundation Movement, that has had the opportunity to perform in Cuba, Palestine, Tanzania, Japan and many other places across the world. Healing for liberation, Arts & Activism, and Popular Education remain his purpose and priority in community movement work, which he is able to develop, practice and facilitate in his role as Director of Cultural Organizing at the grassroots economic justice organization, ‘United for a Fair Economy’.
Joshua Kahn Russell is a social movement facilitator and has trained thousands of activists across the globe. He is the Executive Director of The Wildfire Project, where he supports progressive grassroots frontline organizations. He has helped campaigns win — defending land, water, and workers rights — against banks, oil companies, logging corporations, and coal barons; from local resiliency projects, to national coalitions, to the United Nations Climate Change Negotiations internationally. He has spent 20 years as an organizer, campaign strategist, and civil disobedience coordinator. Joshua has spent the last 8 years building a Shipibo ayahuasca practice of dietas in the Peruvian Amazon under the mentorship of Ricardo Amaringo. He is a leadership coach and psychedelic integration counselor. His new podcast mini-series on Revolutionary Left Radio is called Dialectics & Psychedelics: Transformation and Social Struggles. He has written and co-edited numerous books, including A Line In The Tar Sands: Struggles for Environmental Justice (2014), Beautiful Trouble with Andrew Boyd (2012), and Organizing Cools the Planet: Tools and Reflections to Navigate the Climate Crisis, with Hilary Moore (2011).
This talk will be recorded and immediately available for rewatch for all attendees.
