This community forum will dive into the crucial intersection of psychedelic neuroscience and healthcare professionals, particularly guides and therapists. It aims to emphasize why individuals in these roles should care about the neuroscience of psychedelics. Over the past decade, substantial advancements have occurred in this field, unveiling profound insights into the impact of psychedelics on the brain, consciousness, and mental health. Noteworthy findings from this decade will be discussed, along with the most promising areas within psychedelic neuroscience. Furthermore, the forum will highlight how scholarship in the social sciences and humanities can intersect with and enrich psychedelic neuroscience, promoting a comprehensive approach to harnessing the therapeutic potential of psychedelics. Join us in this conversation with Dr. Sharday Mosurinjohn, who is Associate Professor in the School of Religion at Queen’s University, Kingston ON, and Dr. Manesh Girn, who is a psychedelic neuroscientist currently working at UCSF, conducting brain imaging research with psilocybin among other things.
Manesh is a psychedelic neuroscientist currently working at UCSF with psychedelic research pioneer Dr. Robin Carhart-Harris, conducting brain imaging research with psilocybin among others things. He has a PhD in neuroscience from McGill University and have been an author on over 20 peer-reviewed scientific articles. Manesh is also Chief Research Officer at the Canadian psychedelic bioscience company, EntheoTech Bioscience, and is a psychedelic science educator and content creator under the brand, ‘The Psychedelic Scientist’.
Dr. Sharday Mosurinjohn is Associate Professor in the School of Religion at Queen’s University, Kingston ON. She is interested in the relationships between art, science, and religion in esotericism. Much of her research concerns how human experience is shaped by technologies ranging from digital information tech, as in her first book The Spiritual Significance of Overload Boredom, to psychedelics, as in her new book project, which explores how people are using science and religion to negotiate metaphysical questions arising in contemporary psychedelic culture. Mosurinjohn is a co-founder of the Human Augmentation Research Network, volunteers with local and national psychedelic organizations, serves on steering committees at the American Academy of Religion (Religion & Drugs; Emerging Technologies), and is part of a working group on the entheogenic humanities.
This talk will be recorded and immediately available for rewatch for all attendees.
