We invite you to explore the hidden risks of psychedelic use that often go unaddressed in the enthusiasm surrounding their therapeutic promise. You’ll hear from Tomislav Majic, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and co-lead of the Psychedelic Substances Research Group at Charité Berlin; Dr. Maha N. Mian, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Suffolk University and Research Associate at UCSF; and Helena Aicher, researcher at the Universities of Zurich and Basel and psychotherapist in psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Tomislav Majic is a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and researcher. He co-leads the Psychedelic Substances Research Group at Charité Berlin and is an editor of the handbook “Psychedelic Harm Reduction” (2026). He has founded outpatient clinic for post-psychedelic complications in 2017 and is interested in the therapeutic potential of classic psychedelics and psychedelic-related risks and harms. He has had experiences as researcher and study therapist in clinical trials investigating psilocybin, 5-MeO-DMT and LSD. His clinical focus is on patients with double diagnosis (psychosis and substance use disorders).
Maha N. Mian (she/her), PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Suffolk University and a Research Associate at the University of California, San Francisco. Her research focuses on harm reduction and uses mixed-method and community-based approaches to explore safety strategies for psychedelics and cannabis use. Additionally, she studies the effects of policy changes on substance use perceptions and behaviors. As a clinician, Dr. Mian is passionate about addressing trauma and sexual violence as well as increasing access to mental health services for the BIPOC community. Dr. Mian received her PhD in clinical psychology from University at Albany, SUNY, completed her clinical internship at VA Palo Alto, and was a NIDA T32 Substance Use Disorders Treatment and Services Research fellow at the University of California, San Francisco & Kaiser Permanente Division of Research.


Helena Aicher is a researcher at the Universities of Zurich and Basel, where she studies psychedelics, and a psychotherapist providing psychedelic-assisted therapy within Switzerland’s framework for limited medical use. Bridging research and clinical practice, she contributes to the safe development and implementation of psychedelic-assisted therapies. She is also active in therapist training and advises several institutions and organizations.
