What do psychedelics, Internal Family Systems, and Queer liberation have in common? They each support the journey of reclaiming as sacred what was once cast aside. Join us in this community forum in which we will dive into the union of psychedelics and Internal Family Systems therapy from a Queer perspective. Psychotherapist Justin Natoli will interview Derek Scott, IFSCA founder and certified IFS therapist, who will give an overview of Internal Family Systems therapy and discuss its role in psychedelic work and social justice. They will also explore the concept of “Queer parts” that exist within each of us, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, and discuss how we can integrate these parts individually and as a society.
Derek Scott is an RSW and certified IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapist. He is the founder of IFSCA, an organization dedicated to teaching the IFS model to mental health professionals in Canada and beyond. He has taken the highest level of IFS training (level three) 3 times. Derek has worked in the field of counselling/therapy for over 35 years, including 15 working exclusively as an IFS therapist. He is a popular guest lecturer in the department of Thanatology at the University of Western Ontario and has presented at numerous national and international conferences. As a young queer counsellor his work of 18 years in the AIDS field afforded him much learning from, and a greater understanding of individuals from the LGBT2QIA and First Nation communities as well as street-involved, drug-using and other marginalised individuals such as sex-trade workers. Currently his focus is on teaching the IFS model.
Justin Natoli, JD, LMFT (he/they) is a psychotherapist, Hakomi practitioner, and ketamine-assisted therapist in Los Angeles, CA. In their private practice, Justin specializes in depth and somatic psychotherapies, trauma, addiction, sex and intimacy, psychedelic therapy and integration, and working within kink, poly, LGBTQIA+, and creative communities. Justin received a JD from the UCLA School of Law and a Master’s in Depth psychology from the Pacifica Graduate Institute. They are currently training in psychedelic therapy and research through the AWE Foundation and CIIS.
his talk will be recorded and immediately available for rewatch for all attendees.
