WHO WE ARE:
The Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization co-founded by Brazilian anthropologist Dr. Bia Labate and American psychologist Dr. Clancy Cavnar, based in Northern California and with strong ties to Brazil and Mexico. We promote reciprocity in the psychedelic community, and support the protection of sacred plants and cultural traditions. We advance psychedelic justice through curating critical conversations and uplifting the voices of women, queer people, Indigenous peoples, people of color, and the Global South in the field of psychedelic science.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Chacruna Institute is seeking a Courses Coordinator to oversee the organization’s offering of courses, trainings and workshops. The person occupying this position will be in charge of defining the strategy for our current offering of Studies in Psychedelic Justice, coordinating the creation and moderation of them, managing the relationship with the students and all relevant details for the upkeep of our academic offerings.
This position requires understanding of the psychedelic landscape, great attention to detail and the capacity to define and execute mid and long term plans involving multiple actors.
This is a part-time, remote position with a commitment of 4-6 hours per day from Monday to Friday. We are looking for candidates from the US, with preference for California, ideally located in the Bay Area. The salary will range from 20 to 30 USD an hour, depending on experience and seniority of the candidate.
COMPETENCIES:
- Excitement for the mission, vision and values of the organization
- General understanding of the contemporary psychedelic landscape
- Proven experience of management of offerings similar to academic and popular courses
- Relevant work experience is a plus
- Excellent organizational and self-management skills
- Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese a plus
- Preferred backgrounds in communications, anthropology or social sciences
DUTIES:
- Communicating with professors of the courses to collect materials for their classes, send calendar invites and course materials to them.
- Paying professors their honorariums, which includes collecting the necessary paperwork (w9s, w8s, invoices).
- Creating and monitoring various forms, including scholarship applications and agreement forms for both professors and students.
- Creating course content, including syllabi and textbooks for each course.
- Helping create policies for different aspects of the courses.
- Answering any inquiries from students and folks interested in taking our courses.
- Monitoring CE credit protocols.
- Opening the Zoom room for each of the classes and moderating each class.
- Monitoring the student Discord channels.
- Sending out update emails to the students and professors throughout the course duration when necessary.
- Helping collect final projects from students and sending out certificates to those eligible.
- Helping create and improve the site pages for our trainings (each course, workshop, FAQ, etc).
