Join Chacruna for our first Community Forum focusing on Latinx perspectives and experiences with psychedelic plant medicines. Three singular voices will share their personal journeys of healing with plant medicines and their analyses of the challenges and opportunities that our diverse Latinx communities face in the current psychedelic movement. Our panelists will also offer ideas for members of Latinx communities about preparation for engaging with plant medicines and open the floor for discussion on decolonial/non-extractive approaches in a Q&A session.
Favianna Rodriguez is an interdisciplinary artist, cultural strategist, and activist based in Oakland, California. Her work and collaborative initiatives address migration, economic inequality, gender justice, and ecology. Favianna leads art interventions around the United States at the intersection of art and social justice. Her artistic practices include cultural organizing, visual art, political campaigns, and institution building. She is the founder and president of The Center for Cultural Power, a national arts organization that empowers artists to dream big, disrupt the status quo, and envision a truly just world rooted in shared humanity. In 2016, she received the Robert Rauschenberg Artist as Activist Fellowship for her work around mass incarceration. In 2017, she was awarded an Atlantic Fellowship for Racial Equity for her work around racial justice and climate change. In 2018, she received the SOROS Racial Equity Fellowship. Most recently she has been organizing with artists in the entertainment industry.
Violeta Donawa (she/ ella) is a quiet soul of Panamanian and African-American descent based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA. She is a clinical social worker and healing justice practitioner who deeply loves the sacred work of question-asking and reflection. In these vocational roles, she works with clients to identify holistic healing approaches to heal the emotional, mental, and spiritual selves. The use of plant medicine in her personal life has assisted her in understanding both sides of the “veil” and our human capacities to reimagine identity, spirituality, and relationships. Professionally, Violeta is contemplating the role and ethics of plant medicine within therapeutic care and the mental healthcare system. Diana Quinn ND (she/her) is a queer Chicana and licensed naturopathic doctor with over fifteen years of clinical experience in integrative mental health with a focus on trauma, somatics and mind-body medicine. Her work is grounded in healing justice, a framework that aims to intervene on generational trauma and bring collective practices to transform the consequences of oppression. She is dedicated to building equity, accessibility and structural competency in the field of psychedelics. She is a co-founder of the Psychedelic Liberation Collective, offering monthly integration circles for Black, Indigenous and people of color and 2SLGBTQIA+ people, as well as breathwork sessions and community care. She is a trainee of the California Institute for Integral Studies Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research program and is a member of Chacruna’s Racial Equity and Access Committee.
